Recipe: Indian Meatballs in Creamy Tomato Sauce

When I posted a photo of the Indian meatballs that I cooked for the kids the other night I had a lot of requests from my friends for the recipe.

This is so yummy. Claudia, Jean (Claudia’s bf) & Vinny loved it. Vinny ate 3 meat balls while Claudia and Jean ate 4 each! And Claudia was still looking for any left overs the following day.

So, here it is.

Indian Meatballs in Creamy Tomato Sauce

500 g ground beef

1/4 cup cilantro

1 tbsp garam masala – you can find this in Rustan’s grocery in the spices section.

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 tbsp coconut oil

1 minced onion

1 can chopped tomatoes

1 cup coconut milk

1 tsp ground coriander

1/2 tsp ground cumin

1/2 tsp ginger powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp yellow mustard powder

1/2 tsp salt, pepper to taste

Start by making your meatballs: combine the ground beef with the cilantro, garam masala, garlic and salt in a bowl and mix well with your hands.

– Turn the mixture into 12-15 meatballs, approx. 1,5 inch / 4 cm in diameter and put them on a plate.

– Heat the coconut oil in a skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides over medium heat. As soon as they’re browned, take them out of the pan and set aside, they don\’t have to be cooked through yet.

– In the same skillet, fry the minced onion over medium heat until translucent.

– Add the chopped tomatoes, coconut milk and all spices and stir well. Reduce heat and simmer for approx. 5 minutes until somewhat thickened.

– Put the meatballs back into the pan and stir carefully to cover them with the sauce. Simmer for another 5 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through.

Serve with vegetables of your choice and enjoy!

  • I’m not a big fan of Indian food, I find them sweet. But this recipe seems good and the picture is so mouth watering. I will definitely try this. Thanks, miss T.
