Arrival in Cebu

Claudia joined the IronMan703 International Triathlon race held in Cebu last August 3, 2014. This is her first time to joined an international triathlon race. She joins triathlon races here in the Philippines and most of the time she ranks first in her age group division.

We flew to Cebu last friday early evening. We were booked in ShangriLa Mactan Resort & Spa in Mactan Cebu, where the race was held. Claudia took the flight before our flight because she was with her group and her trainer. Our flight got delayed for more than an hour and a half.

I made kulit Vito the whole time so I won’t get bored.

What else is there to do while waiting for the flight? Take selfies of course. My first attempt failed. Vito hates taking selfies. He hates it even more taking selfies with his mother.

First attempt:

I believe in the saying that goes: if at first you didn’t succeed, try again. Always try again.

I didn’t like this shot cause my hair looked so frizzy. So I tried again.

If your flight gets delayed this long and you didn’t bring a book, your best companion is your phone.

Here are some shots that I took and some Vito took while waiting for our flight.

Finally, after an hour and a half of waiting and taking 1 million selfies our flight was called for boarding. Thank God.

Arrived Cebu.

We got to our hotel around 10:00 pm already. There were still a lot of people in the lobby checking in. All triathletes from all over the world. From Europe, U.S.A., and a lot from Asia also. Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Japan.

After checking in I couldn’t wait to take a long bath right away. I was so tired that I fell asleep when I hit the bed.

I woke up around 7:30 the following morning and when I went to the balcony of our room this is what I saw:

I told Vito let’s shower already cause I have to meet all the IronMan! Hahahahahaha. He goes, can we have breakfast first mom. I am starving!

So anyway, our schedule for the day was to meet up with my Mom & Dad & my brother for lunch. Claudia’s race was not until the following day, Sunday.

After breakfast we hang around in the lobby for a couple of minutes and I saw a lot of the participants loitering in the lobby. I was thinking to myself: ‘san galing ‘tong mga ‘to? Ang babatak ng mga katawan. In fairness they really looked like Iron Men in the truest sense of the word. Especially the elite group (professionls).

We left the hotel around 11:45am to go to the city to have lunch with my Mom & Dad. I called up front desk for a hotel car. They told me they have 2 cars left that’s available at that time. A Mercedes Benz and Innova. Claudia said get the Mercedes Benz. O, sige, you choose: let’s get the Mercedes Benz and let’s just eat in the side walk. Or Innova and let’s have a decent real Cebuano food. We got the Innova.

We had such a nice and enjoyable lunch with my mom & dad and my brother Ernie. We ate in this restaurant called Lantaw that was beside the sea. Beautiful scenery and the most important thing is the kids loved the food.

The pictures of us.

With my Daddy & Vito

After lunch we needed to go back to the hotel already cause Claudia had to check in her bicycle to the organizers at 2pm. So, we hurriedly went back to the hotel and chilled for a couple of minutes.

I had a scheduled dinner with my core group that night. Core group meaning my closest friends. These are my friends that has been tried and tested through the years. We rarely see each other cos they’re all from Cebu but we chat on facebook everyday. These are my friends who will catch a bullet for me. And likewise me for them. I don’t need anymore friends. They are enough for me.

Myka hosted the dinner at her beautiful home on top of the mountain. Very nice view. Over looking the whole City. She prepared all the our favorite food and Bamba the baker in the group brought desserts. She made cassava cake (my favorite) and salted caramel brownies. Jinggay was assigned to bring the booze. And Mike brought one bangka of crabs! Bbg & me brought ourselves. hahahahahaha.

The food was great to say the very least.

After dinner we did a photo shoot.

I met all of Myka’s pets. I have never met anyone who is such an animal lover as she is. Here are some of her exotic members of her family:

Her Hedehogs

We spent the whole night laughing, eating, laughing again and eating again. When you have fun, time flies so fast! I wish we had the whole night!

I needed to sleep early since Claudia’s first wave (swimming) starts at 6:00am and we have to be up at 5:30am. I got back to my hotel around 1 am.

It was fun to be back in Cebu. Claudia told me: Mom, Cebuanos are the best Filipino ever. They are all nice here.

  • Bagay po sa group ninyo ang quote na “True friendship isn’t about being inseparable. It’s being separated and nothing changes.” Loyal friends are treasures worth more than any piece of jewelry. Ang swerte-swerte mo, Ms. Tina, may friends ka na, may jewelries ka pa! Haha!
