Last sunday I had coffee with Danny Javier together with some mutual friends.
Danny Javier of APO Hiking Society, the most famous group in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s. They were my favorite group ever since I was in high school until they retired (I don’t know exactly when they retired). I know all their songs by heart. And my favorite of the group was (& still is) Danny Javier. Jim Paredes was too gwapo na nakakasawa and he wasn’t as funny as Danny & Boboy, Boboy Garrovillo was funny, too, but he lacked the charisma of Danny. While Danny was the most sexy in the group, most appealing (at least for my taste) and very witty and funny.
We were in Starbucks chatting the whole afternoon and I had the greatest time of my life. Sitting across him and talking just like we’ve known each other for a long time already. It was surreal.
I found out that APO has retired and Danny personally is done with show business. When you see him please don’t ask him if APO will have a reunion because his response will be: what in the word “retired” did you not understand? Thats what he told one of the assistants of Jessica Soho.
Spending just a few hours with him I learned so much about life per se. We exchanged cellphone #’s and the next day he sent me Alkaline powder (good for my acid reflux) and gave me a few bottles of the famous “Javier Ginger Tea” owned by his brother Sandy.
There’s one thing that Danny said that I will never forget: “di bale maiksi ang buhay, ‘wag lang masakit.”
Another one off my bucket list.
Have a great week end everyone!
