III. MEDJUGORJE, Bosnia Herzegovina
Our Blessed Mother appeared to 6 young children in Medjugorje in early 80’s. Mirjana Dragicevic, Ivanka Ivanković, Marija Pavlović, Jakov Colo, Vicka Ivanković and Ivan Dragicevic.
Even up to this time a lot of pilgrims visit the apparition site. The 6 young visionaries are no longer in Medjugorje except for Vicka Ivankovic who still has a house there. And every friday she holds an audience with the thousands of pilgrims.
We arrived in Medjugorje late afternoon in time for the 6 pm mass in the church where Mama Mary also appeared to the visionaries. The church was just a 5 minute walk from where we stayed.
All through out the years since early 80’s when Mama Mary appeared to the visionaries the pilgrims that visit Medjugorje has grown and hundreds of thousands flocked every year. They extended the back of the church cos people that hear mass everyday won’t fit inside the church anymore.
The mass was just about to start when we arrived.
The english masses is at 10:30am and 6pm everyday. They also have masses in different languages.
Medjugorje is just a small village and with all the pilgrims that go there they want to preserved the solemnity of their village. They didn’t want any hotels built.
The main street in the village:
The only accommodation that they offer is you stay in the houses of the villagers, eat their home cook meals and live the way they do. No TV. Just a simple bed.
We stayed in the house of Branko and his wife in a small neighborhood very near the church.
Branko and two girls from the village help him and his wife run the house. Marianna & Sylvia.
This is our dinning area:
The coffee & tea station that is open 24 hours. Self service.
One of the things we did when we were there was climb the apparition hill. Rugged terrain and very, very steep. And on the way up the hill we did the way of the cross and prayed the holy rosary.
On top of the hill they built this big statue of our Blessed Mother where she apparently appeared to the children .
On our last day in Medjugorje we went to this restaurant about 20 minutes away from the village that is known for there yummy roasted lamb.
Father Jerry’s group went on to their next journey to Istanbul via Sarajevo while we went back to Dubrovnik to catch our flight to Milan. After 4 days of praying and sacrificing I was so ready for Milan & Paris!
One last walk in this lovely village that I will always treasure in my heart.
